だんてい【断定】

1 〔はっきり下した判断〕 a clear [firm] affirmation [declaration, assertion]; a firm judgement.

～する affirm [declare, assert] 《that…》; 【論】 〔主題について〕 predicate.

●他殺だと断定する declare 《it》 to be murder [manslaughter, homicide]

・その事実から…と断定できる. From that fact one can affirm [declare, assert] that….

・彼の精神が錯乱していたものと断定せざるを得ない. I must affirm that he was deranged in mind.

●断定を下す make a clear [firm] affirmation [declaration, assertion] 《that…》

・断定を避ける avoid a clear [firm] affirmation [declaration, assertion].

●にわかに断定はできない. I can't make a hasty assertion [judgement].
